Tuition- Lessons are $30 per 30-minute lesson, $45 per 45-minute lesson, or $55 per hour lesson. Payment is due in monthly increments at the beginning of each month, due by the 15th.
For multiple children- I offer a discount of $5 per child, per lesson.
Payment is due by the 15th of the month. A late fee of $10 will be added every week that the payment is late. I cannot give refunds if a student cancels a lesson. However, I may schedule a make-up lesson at a convenient time for the student and me.
Performances- All students are encouraged, but not required, to perform when given the opportunity. Public performances must be pre-approved by the teacher. This ensures a good experience for the student. (See next page)
Vacation- Lessons continue through the summer unless otherwise notified. Christmas break and Spring break will be determined by the 4J school schedule. Please notify me of any planned missed lessons due to vacation. I will make adjustments to the monthly bill and hold the student’s lesson time.
For the Student
Practice- what you put in is what you will get out. Daily practice is important to the growth and learning of the student. Beginners are asked to practice 15-30 minutes every day. Intermediates will practice 45 minutes every day. Advanced students will practice at least an hour every day. I will give specific assignments to the student, and may adjust the practice time for every student.
A typical lesson will consist of theory, ear-training, technic work, improv, sightreading, as well as learning repertoire.
A piano at home in a non-distracting environment is a necessity for every student. An acoustic piano is preferred, however, for beginning students, a keyboard may be allowed.
For the Parent
Parents are welcome to observe lessons.
The teacher may terminate the student/parent/teacher agreement if any of the terms in this agreement are not followed, or if the student and teacher are not compatible.
Performances
Students are strongly encouraged but not required to perform. Performances are exciting opportunities to share with friends and family the hard work a student has accomplished.
I will always work with the student and parents to make it a great experience. I wish for performances to have a satisfying feeling of accomplishment. In order to make this happen, I will ensure that the student is ready to play in a performance. Sometimes I will forbid a student to perform if I feel that the performance would be a bad experience for the student. From an early age, well-prepared and successful performances are crucial for great performances later in life. Sometimes, it will be more profitable for a student to skip a performance he or she is not prepared for rather than have a bad performing experience. I will work with the parents to make sure all the performances are well-prepared, but it will ultimately be the teacher’s decision to allow a student to perform.
